Dance Styles

Combining Dance Styles

We often get asked by parents whether training in more than one dance style would be of benefit to their child/children or hinder their progress in the long-term. The answer has more to do with the level of teacher expertise and awareness than stylistic dissimilarities.

Receiving tuition in varied dance styles that compliment one another provides the young dancer a broader scope to develop strength and versatility. Dancers are required to showcase their ability in different styles and techniques within the competition circuit, as well as during the audition process for many international dance companies.

Children thrive in a varied environment where they learn to use their bodies in different ways and express themselves by acquiring new perspectives. We've made the decision easier for parents by pairing dance forms that help the child develop technically and artistically

Ballet & Contemporary

Ballet training emphasizes uniformity and adherence to tradition while Contemporary is characterized by its diversity and fusion of styles - training encourages creativity and experimentation, allowing dancers to explore movement freely and develop a unique style, which is a perfect complement to the strict precision and control ballet requires

Modern Dance & Tap

Modern, noted for its angular and asymmetrical movements, abrupt stops and starts, and fluidity of the spine uses a wide range of body movements, including floor work.

Like tap, which has its roots in theatrical performance, modern  dance is less rigid and allows for more freedom of movement, experimentation and expansion

Contemporary & Acro

Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. Acro is defined by its athletic character, and its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics. Both styles showcase a dancer’s agility, flexibility, and strength and develop a high degree of physical fitness

Testimonials

Amy Wakefield - Student

"I've been a student of DX Dance since grade 1 (currently in grade 8 ). I love dancing and my fellow students. Teacher Michelle is amazing and always encourages us to do our best. She's been entering us into dance competitions and this has given us so much exposure and inspiration to do even better."

Chris-Mari Lombaard - Student

I have been a dancer with DanceXtreme/DX Dance for the past ten years. Dancing has taught me grace and poise in everyday life, how to express my emotions, how to apply self-control and self-discipline and how to think in creative ways. I am also proud to qualify as a dance teacher and I hope that I notice, nourish and amplify the passion for dance in people, as Michelle Wright did for me. ”

Virpi Vogel - Student

“With Michelle’s help and patience, I had won trophies for my performances and exams were a breeze. Not only is Michelle an amazing dancing teacher, but she is a great role model and will always be mine. She takes pride and interest in her students and is always willing to help, no matter the hour of the day.”
